Our church is in a corporate fast for 21 days in preparation for revival. Normally, when I fast, I keep it VERY private. My kids have never known when I was fasting before. If they would ask why I wasn't eating with them, I would usually say, "I'm just not hungry." Since this is a church fast, Eric and I decided to let the kids in on it.
No, we're not forcing our kids to go without food and water. We explained what fasting meant and why we do it, etc. Anyway, we had them decide if they wanted to try giving up something for the 21 days, replace that thing with prayer and Bible reading, and see what happened.
At first, Jerry decided that he would give up candy and soda. Cool! It's a big thing for him. Tiger decided to give up BBQ sauce. Okay! You have to know how addicted he is to BBQ sauce.
[Side note: Eric told Pastor Morris that he was going to fast the Food Network. (eyeroll) No, he is really going to do what I call a REAL fast.]
Anyway, I was proud that we were going to do this as a family.
The boys decided that they wanted McDonald's food one night, but being the mean Mom that I am:
I said, "No. I'm cooking supper." Which btw, is probably why they wanted McD's.
They were quick with, "but Mom, you could eat THAT with us."
I said, "What are you talking about?"
Their answer, "Because it's FAST food!"
Picture me (in a classic Charlie Brown) "Good Grief!"

That's cute :p
Day 2 for me - only 19 more to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The longest I've gone is 9.
This is hard.
Since we're sharing.... I jumped in on the fast, too. I want to see God SHAKE RSVL for His glory.
I told my son.... no mexican food for me. You have to understand.... we frequent La Huerta, Taco John's, and Taco Villa like there's no tomorrow..... until now. I've only eaten out once this week... at Quiznos.
BTW: I should've looked on Sunday's bulletin. I just assumed everything was the same. Oh well.... makes me more anxious for Sunday. I'm going early enough to get seating on the floor this time! Center to 3rd base-ish.
Okay, quick clarification here:
I am by no means doing a great 21 day fast of food and water for the 21 days straight. (I am not that holy.) I am fasting food and water on certain days, and I'm giving up other things for the full 21 days. Hopefully, I will become more disciplined and be a better "fast-er". Main thing I'm trying to do, and get across to my kiddos, is to get my focus right.
God bless and more power to anyone who can fast that much.
Being hypoglycemic, I always felt bad that I couldn't fast 24/7 from food. It's so cool how God prompts us to fast certain things for a season, isn't it? I can dig it. For instance, during the move, God has prompted me to fast from the internet and television. [Okay, I'm being a little flip, but seriously, to replace the twitching urges to be informed during the move, I'm going to focus my attention on really listening to Him instead. Novel concept, huh?] I'll pray your time as a family goes well and is blessed, no matter what the outcome.
Love you. LOTS.
cool!! and goofy kids on the fast food. tiger. have i mentioned i LOVE that?
Fast food - that is great - those boys...always thinking!
Have been thinking of you lots -
thought you might want to know...
:heartbeat: :heartbeat:
Well, I'm certainly "not that holy" either! haha.
I'm "trying" it. We'll see if I make it. I am drinking liquids - but no dairy or caffeine.
Day 3.
That's so cool. I think it's cool that they wanted to participate!
I think it's way cool that your kids are in on it, learning where to focus their lives.
I couldn't do a complete fast either. But, I think there is real dedication to give up something you LOVE for a period of time. I once fasted television for a week ..... that was pretty hard to do.... cause the famiy didn't. I've fasted cheese and sodas before. It was amazing that after that, sodas didn't have a hold on me like they did before... now I go dayyyyyyyyyyys without even thinking of them.......... so I think, in the end, it not only gives us some spiritual awakening, but our bodies benefit, too.
VERY cool they wanted to do it...my boys do it too! we fasted television for 40 days the last time. it was actually great! much family time, sharing and reading and discussing the Bible and just hanging out together! The boys also fasted food for a few days too.
LOVE, LOVE the family fast!!!
Praying you see God move in awesome ways!!
That's great that they wanted in on it too! Sweet boys.
....FAST food........
